USDA Issues Health Alert for Wegmans Chicken Nuggets Due to Bone Fragments
Consumers urged to discard affected frozen chicken nuggets as a precautionary measure.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on Monday for Wegmans frozen, fully cooked breaded chicken breast nuggets due to potential contamination with bone fragments.
The affected product is identified as 46-ounce packages of “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat.” These packages carry a best-if-used-by date of Aug. 26, 2025, which can be found on the back of the packaging. The product also displays the code “P-33944” inside the USDA inspection seal. The chicken nuggets were produced on August 26, 2024.
The product was distributed to Wegmans stores in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. No recall has been requested, as the item is no longer available for purchase, the FSIS clarified.
The health alert follows multiple consumer complaints received by Wegmans, who reported finding bone fragments in the product. As of the announcement, the FSIS stated that there have been no confirmed injuries related to the consumption of the affected chicken nuggets.
“FSIS is concerned that some of the product may still be in consumers’ freezers,” the agency’s announcement stated. It urged anyone who purchased the affected chicken nuggets to dispose of the product or return it to the store.
Wegmans representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the matter.
