University of Surrey Announces New Campus in India
The University of Surrey has unveiled plans to establish a new campus in India, set to be located in Gujarat’s central business district. This expansion marks a major milestone in the university’s international reach.
The announcement was made by Prof Max Lu, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Surrey, alongside Dr Sharad Mehra, CEO of Global University Systems (GUS) Asia Pacific, during the 2025 QS India Summit in Goa.
Prof Tim Dunne, Provost and Senior Vice President of the university, shared his enthusiasm with the BBC, stating, "India is a massive educational marketplace," and noted that the new campus in Gujarat would provide the university with a valuable opportunity to establish a presence in this growing market.
The campus is set to offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and master’s degree programs in fields like finance, business, and technology—sectors identified by the Indian government as being in high demand.
Prof Lu described the campus as "a shining example of British education excellence and impact," emphasizing its role in fostering transnational education in an increasingly globalized world.
Teaching will be delivered by a combination of Indian and Surrey faculty members, with course content developed by Surrey’s academic team. Prof Dunne explained, "It’s a chance to engage with a new cohort of students that we wouldn’t have been able to teach otherwise."
Pending approval, the University of Surrey plans to welcome its first group of students to the Gujarat campus by the summer of 2026.
