Mark Andrews Breaks Silence After Costly Fumble and Drop in Ravens' Loss to Bills
Tight end reflects on mistakes, expresses gratitude for support, and vows to grow stronger from the experience.
BALTIMORE — For the first time since the Baltimore Ravens’ heartbreaking 27-25 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs, tight end Mark Andrews has addressed his critical mistakes in the game.
Andrews, who finished with five receptions for 61 yards, was at the center of two pivotal errors in the final quarter that contributed to the loss. With Baltimore trailing 24-19, he fumbled the ball, halting a crucial drive. Later, with less than two minutes remaining, he dropped a pass in the end zone on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game.
Though Andrews refrained from speaking to the media immediately after the game, he shared his thoughts publicly in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday.
“It’s impossible to adequately express how I feel. I’m absolutely gutted by what happened on Sunday,” Andrews wrote. “I’m devastated for my teammates, my coaches, and Ravens fans.”
He added, “I pour every ounce of my being into playing at the highest level possible because I love my team and the game of football like nothing else. That’s why it’s taken me until now to collect my thoughts and address this publicly. Even though the shock and disappointment are unlike anything I’ve felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me.”
Andrews expressed that he would use the experience as motivation to grow stronger, thanking fans who showed immense support following the loss. A GoFundMe campaign organized by a Buffalo Bills fan page raised over $80,000 for Andrews’ charity, Breakthrough T1D, which supports individuals living with Type 1 diabetes.
“Despite the negativity, I’ve seen heartfelt love and encouragement, including from those who have generously donated to the Breakthrough T1D organization,” he wrote.
The Ravens selected Andrews, now 29, in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has spent his entire seven-year career in Baltimore, establishing himself as a key player on the team.
Andrews’ determination to rise above the adversity is a testament to his resilience, and he remains focused on continuing to make an impact both on and off the field.
