Shelby Dozier, a Bronx resident, admits to stealing valuable items from mail during his time as a postal service employee.
A former U.S. Postal Service sorting clerk in New Jersey has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 worth of sports memorabilia, including rare trading cards and jerseys, federal authorities announced Tuesday.
Shelby Dozier, 34, of the Bronx, was employed by the Postal Service as a sorting clerk starting in August 2022. While working at the postal facility in Clifton, New Jersey, Dozier admitted to stealing numerous packages that were meant for a consignment auction house specializing in trading cards and sports memorabilia.
The stolen items included valuable memorabilia from famous athletes such as Michael Jordan, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays, along with jerseys from NBA stars like Reggie Miller and other notable athletes. Dozier also took autographed photos from tennis great Rafael Nadal and several other famous sports figures.
The victimized auction house, based in Clifton, sources and sells memorabilia from customers across the globe, according to prosecutors.
In his plea agreement, Dozier has agreed to repay restitution in the amount of $108,692.49 to the victimized company. He now faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, with sentencing set for April 22.
