Far Cry New Dawn is Getting a Big Upgrade on PlayStation and Xbox
Ubisoft Announces 60 FPS Performance Patch for Far Cry New Dawn on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Enhancing Gameplay Experience
In an unexpected announcement, Ubisoft has revealed that Far Cry New Dawn will soon receive a significant 60 FPS upgrade on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Originally released in 2019, Far Cry New Dawn is a spin-off set long after the events of Far Cry 5. The game takes players into a post-apocalyptic world, where survivors fight for limited resources against rival factions.
While the game didn't receive the same level of praise as its predecessor, it still garnered attention for its unique setting and engaging gameplay. Although many players may have moved on to newer titles, Ubisoft is giving Far Cry New Dawn a much-needed boost, hoping to entice both new players and those who may have missed it during its initial release.
Ubisoft Support made the announcement via Twitter, revealing that Far Cry New Dawn will soon benefit from a 60 FPS update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The rollout for this update will begin after temporarily disabling the FPS Boost feature on Xbox Series consoles to prepare for the performance enhancement. This change will take effect on January 31, 2025, at 4 PM PST (7 PM EST), and Xbox users will experience a smooth transition to the improved performance. PlayStation users, however, won’t need to take any extra steps.
While the exact timeline for the patch’s full release remains unclear, speculation suggests that the update may coincide with the game's arrival on Xbox Game Pass, scheduled for February 4, 2025.
Ubisoft’s Commitment to Enhancing Older Titles
This move to bring Far Cry New Dawn up to speed with the latest console performance is part of a broader trend at Ubisoft. In recent years, the company has worked to update older games to align with current-generation hardware. For example, in November 2024, Ubisoft released a 60 FPS patch for Assassin's Creed Syndicate (2015), continuing its efforts to breathe new life into its older library. Additionally, Ubisoft recently added Steam achievements to Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6, further enhancing their value for players.
With mounting rumors of a potential third-party takeover and some tough decisions regarding layoffs in early 2025, Ubisoft is hoping that these performance upgrades, along with upcoming releases like Assassin's Creed Shadows, will help reinvigorate the company and provide a much-needed morale boost.
In the meantime, fans of Far Cry New Dawn can look forward to revisiting the game with smoother gameplay on their next-gen consoles, potentially opening the door for a new wave of players to experience the post-apocalyptic action.
