Erling Haaland Extends Manchester City Stay with New 10-Year Contract
The Norwegian striker, who will be 34 when his contract expires, secures a long-term future with the Premier League champions.
Erling Haaland has committed his future to Manchester City with a new 10-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2034. The Premier League champions confirmed the deal on Friday, which will see the 24-year-old striker continue his remarkable run at the club.
Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has scored 111 goals in 125 appearances, quickly becoming one of the most lethal forwards in world football. Speaking about the new deal, Haaland expressed his determination to keep improving: “Now I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward,” he said in a statement released by the club.
The Norwegian international, who has already secured a Premier League title and a Champions League trophy with City, will be 34 years old when his new contract comes to an end.
Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City's outgoing director of football, expressed the club’s joy at securing Haaland's long-term future, stating, “The fact he is signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player, and his love of this club.”
Haaland's contract extension comes as Manchester City awaits a decision regarding charges of 115 breaches of Premier League financial regulations. The striker, however, reiterated his unwavering commitment to the club, saying, “Now I am City no matter what.”
City manager Pep Guardiola, who also recently signed a two-year contract extension in November, will continue to work with Haaland as they aim for more silverware. The team has faced challenges in the current season, including a difficult stretch of just one win in nine matches across all competitions. However, City has rebounded with an unbeaten run in their last five matches, winning three. Despite the recent improvements, they currently sit sixth in the Premier League, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
