Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Has a Co-Op Problem
o-Op Mode in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Faces Frustrating Issue on Nintendo Switch
Bouncing Bug Hinders Co-Op Gameplay in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has recently launched on Nintendo Switch, but some players have uncovered a frustrating issue that impacts the co-op experience. While the game functions well for solo players, a problem with bouncing off enemies in co-op mode has made certain levels nearly impossible to complete with two players.
Released on January 16, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a remaster of the classic Wii game, with the added bonus of extra content from the 3DS version. While the game has received praise for its graphical improvements, it has also faced criticism, particularly regarding the lack of original content on the Switch version. Fans are especially divided over the $60 price tag, given that the remaster mainly offers enhanced visuals without new gameplay features. However, a more serious issue has since emerged that could undermine the game’s status as the definitive version of this beloved platformer.
The Co-Op Issue That Has Players Upset
As reported by YouTube channel Kong Kompendium, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has a bug in its co-op mode that prevents both players from bouncing off the same enemy in quick succession. In the original Wii version, enemies remained interactable for a brief period after being hit, allowing the second player a chance to bounce off them. Unfortunately, this feature is broken in the remaster, making certain levels much more difficult in two-player mode.
This bug has been present since the 3DS version of the game, likely due to technical limitations when porting the game to the handheld hardware. However, it’s unclear why the issue wasn’t addressed for the Switch remaster. For co-op players, this limitation results in frustrating gameplay moments where players are unable to use enemies to progress through certain sections. In the Platform Panic level, for instance, one player repeatedly falls to their death because they cannot bounce off enemies in sync with their partner.
Community Outcry and Hopes for a Fix
Fans are understandably frustrated with Forever Entertainment, the developer behind the HD remaster, for not resolving this issue before the Switch release. Many are hoping for a patch that will fix the bouncing mechanic and restore the smoother co-op experience from the original game. Kong Kompendium has reached out to both Nintendo and Forever Entertainment about the problem, but as of now, there has been no official response regarding a potential fix.
For now, players will have to make do with the current version of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, which may be enjoyable for solo players but disappointing for those hoping for a fully functional co-op mode. Fans continue to wait, hoping that the developer will address the problem and make this remaster the definitive version it was meant to be.
