Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. Finally Set for April Clash in London
The long-awaited showdown between the British rivals is back on after Benn’s suspension delay.
The much-anticipated boxing showdown between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. is officially set for April in London, ending years of delays and speculation, organizers have confirmed.
The fight, originally scheduled for October 2022, was scrapped at the last minute when Benn failed a voluntary drug test during fight week. After a prolonged legal battle to clear his name, Benn’s suspension was lifted in November, paving the way for the long-awaited bout.
Announcing the news on social media, the 28-year-old shared images of himself signing the fight contract alongside promoter Eddie Hearn and Saudi official Turki Alalshikh, writing: “Your fate has been sealed! @chriseubankjr.”
Eubank Jr., 35, responded with his own post, stating: “@conorbennofficial just signed his own death sentence.”
A Legacy-Fueled Rivalry
The fight will see Benn move up from welterweight to take on Eubank Jr., who holds a professional record of 34 wins and three losses. Initially billed as a catchweight contest, the bout is now being finalized under new terms.
Saudi official Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, confirmed the fight on social media, stating: “Eubank Jr. vs. Benn done in April, London, under the name ‘Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.’ The exact date and venue will be announced soon.”
The clash is steeped in history, as it continues a family rivalry that captivated British boxing in the 1990s. Their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr., engaged in two legendary fights, the first ending in a TKO victory for Eubank Sr. in 1990, and the rematch in 1993 ending in a draw.
Now, decades later, their sons will look to settle the score once and for all in what promises to be an electrifying encounter.
