Caitlin Clark Declines Invitation to NBA All-Star Weekend's 3-Point Contest
There were talks of a 3-point shootout featuring Caitlin Clark, but she has chosen to wait until July’s WNBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.
Caitlin Clark has decided to hold off on her NBA All-Star weekend debut in the 3-point shooting contest, opting instead to save her first professional contest for the WNBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis this July.
Clark, who currently plays for the Indiana Fever, declined an invitation to participate in a special challenge during next month’s NBA All-Star festivities, as confirmed by her representatives at Excel Sports.
There had been talks about featuring Clark in a 3-point shootout similar to last year’s event, where NBA star Stephen Curry faced off against WNBA’s Sabrina Ionescu. Curry ultimately defeated Ionescu in a thrilling contest that became one of the weekend’s highlights.
This year, there were rumors of expanding the competition during the NBA All-Star weekend in the Bay Area. Ionescu, who had previously participated in last year’s shootout, confirmed she would attend the event but remained tight-lipped on whether she would participate in on-court activities.
The decision by Clark to bypass the NBA event was first reported by Sports Business Journal. As for Clark, she has a busy weekend ahead, with her Iowa jersey set to be retired on Sunday during the Hawkeyes’ game against No. 4 USC.
