Liverpool Bracing for a Tougher Second Half of the Season
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has warned that the second half of the campaign will be even more challenging than the first as the Reds push for their record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
Slot’s side have been dominant both domestically and in Europe, suffering just two losses in 31 matches across all competitions. With a four-point lead over second-placed Arsenal and a game in hand, Liverpool remain favorites in the title race.
However, Brentford, their upcoming opponents, have proven formidable at home, securing seven victories this season—matching both Arsenal and Liverpool for the highest number of home wins.
"This season, more than any other, highlights the strength of every team in the league," Slot said in a pre-match press conference on Friday. He pointed to Southampton’s recent battle against Manchester United as evidence that no game can be taken lightly.
“As we enter the second half of the season, matches become even tougher. Teams have had more time together, managers have refined their strategies, and clubs have strengthened their squads. The competition gets even fiercer as clubs fight for European spots, the league title, or survival,” Slot explained.
A Tough First Encounter and Liverpool’s Recent Form
Brentford were Slot’s first home league opponents in August, a match Liverpool won 2-0. Reflecting on that game, Slot admitted he quickly realized the Premier League's difficulty compared to the Eredivisie.
“If this is the level of resistance we’ll face every week, then this league is even tougher than I expected,” Slot recalled.
Liverpool have drawn their last two matches and are looking to return to winning ways. Slot, however, insisted that his team is not fixated on the Premier League table.
“We aren’t constantly thinking about our position in the league. Our focus is on performing well each match and improving as a team,” he said.
Squad Updates: Jota Doubtful, Nunez's Form Discussed
Forward Diogo Jota is a doubt after experiencing discomfort following his goal-scoring substitute appearance in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest midweek.
Meanwhile, Slot dismissed concerns over Darwin Nunez’s form. The Uruguayan striker has netted only four times in 26 appearances this season but remains a key attacking presence.
"For me, that’s just life as a striker. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don’t," Slot said. "What’s important is that as a team, we’ve been able to find the net in nearly every game. Darwin will score—he’s already proven that, and I have no doubts he’ll continue to do so."
Team News

Rico Henry and Ben Mee could return to the starting XI after featuring on the bench in the 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Head-to-Head and Recent Meetings
Brentford’s last victory over Liverpool came in 2022, marking their first triumph over the Reds since 1938. However, Liverpool have since won their last four meetings, scoring 17 goals in seven Premier League clashes. The Bees have failed to score in four of those encounters.
With both teams looking to make a statement, Saturday’s match promises to be another thrilling Premier League showdown.
