12-Year-Old Shot After Snowball Incident in Hartford, Connecticut
Police say the child's injuries are not life-threatening, but no arrests have been made in the case.
A 12-year-old was shot Wednesday evening in Hartford, Connecticut, after allegedly throwing a snowball at a passing car, according to police. The child, along with an 11-year-old companion, had been tossing snowballs when one struck a vehicle. Authorities said the driver of the car turned around, circled the block, and opened fire on the children.
Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert confirmed at a news conference on Thursday that the 12-year-old's injuries were not considered life-threatening, though they were still serious. The 11-year-old was not injured in the shooting.
"It could have been much worse," Boisvert stated, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Investigators are currently working to locate the vehicle involved and determine how many people were in the car. Police are reviewing nearby surveillance footage to gather more information about the incident.
Boisvert did not provide an update on the 12-year-old's condition, but NBC Connecticut reported the child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment. Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting and have not yet made any arrests.
